Turaco is a financial services start-up in East Africa that is bringing a new model to health and risk financing for emerging customers. Turaco offers on-demand health loans so customers can get care at our network of clinics or hospitals and pay back over time. It’s like insurance, without the monthly premiums.

Position Summary:

Turaco is looking for a Claims Representative to play a key role between the insurance company and its customers by carrying out investigations and claims processing.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

The Claims Representative will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as a liaison between Turaco and the customer, initiate, investigate and process claims reported by customers.

  • Effectively communicate with customers, medical service providers and co-workers to obtain all information needed to complete claims investigations. 

  • Obtain and review claim information, company policies and insurance policy details to make a decision on the approval and/or settlement.

  • Settle insurance claims by evaluating the facts of a customer situation surrounding the claim, documentation provided, and determining whether the loss is covered.

  • Assist in developing claim reports and track KPIs important to Turaco and its clients.

  • Analyze and recommend ways to always improve the customer experience, claims process and communication tools.

Key Qualifications & Your Profile:

  • One-to-two years of experience.

  • BSc/BA in Business Administration, healthcare administration, or other related field.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build rapport with customers, especially over the phone.

  • Empathetic and displays high emotional intelligence.

  • Hardworking with demonstrable examples of a strong work ethic.

  • Proficient in MS Office.

  • A customer-oriented attitude.

  • Problem-solving aptitude.

  • Ability to work well with a team.

  • Proficient in English language – verbal and written communication and familiar with other regional languages; proficiency or fluency in Lutoro and prevalent languages spoken in Western Uganda, a plus.

  • Holder of an up-to-date Certificate of Proficiency in insurance valid in Uganda a plus
