EthioChicken was awarded the 2018 Financial Times “Boldness in Business Award” and has attracted investments from Finnfund, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Arabica Investments, AgDevCo, and Acumen. Uzima seeks to grow to a comparable scale in Uganda and plans to deliver 1 chicken per Ugandan household per year by 2025. Uzima aims to be the leading smallholder-focused poultry enterprise in Uganda and Rwanda.
Uzima is seeking a highly motivated and disciplined Finance Manager with a passion for improving the lives of smallholder farmers. The Finance Manager is responsible for managing Uzima’s financial and accounting operations, including recording, adjusting, reconciling, and reporting all financial information. The Finance Manager will report to the Managing Director.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
Implement and maintain accounting policies and processes in compliance with both IFRS and local regulatory guidance.
Develop and implement appropriate internal control systems and financial procedures.
Prepare company financial reports based on regulatory and legal requirements.
Maintain appropriate Company documentation and compliance with regulatory and tax-related requirements.
Identify financial risks and take part in developing strategies to overcome these risks.
Maintain accounting software system (Sage 50) and initiate periodic improvements.
Consolidate financial statements, budget vs. actual reporting, and other reports as required, providing commentary and ensuring accurate and timely presentation to management.
Ensure timely and accurate reports are provided to investors/funders as required.
Financial Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting
Manage financial planning, budgeting, monitoring and forecasting.
Develop and review budget vs. actual reports for accuracy and provide commentary to management and relevant departments.
Manage company cash allocation.
Ensure accounts payable are paid, and accounts receivable collected, in a timely manner.
Oversee all ledger and bank account reconciliations.
External Stakeholder Management
Develop and maintain relationships with key business partners (including banks, auditors, actuaries and regulatory bodies).
Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for annual audits.
Uzima Chicken is seeking a candidate who has the following characteristics:
Passionate about positively impacting smallholder farmers and customers in rural areas.
University degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; relevant certification (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent).
Acumen in accounting and financial issues and procedures; 4 - 7 years of experience in similar position.
Ability to work independently with limited follow-up.
High level of integrity and accountability.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Leadership potential - desire and capacity to grow into leadership roles.
Detail-oriented, with a highly-developed sense of reliability and accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Experience and proficiency in accounting software tools (preferred Sage 50).
Experience and proficiency in excel.
