Turaco’s mission is to be there for its customers in their times of greatest need, by providing them with insurance to confront risks, and financial products designed to work for them. Turaco designs customer-focused insurance products and sells them through partnerships to end users in East Africa. Turaco is an insurance intermediary that designs products, markets to partners and end customers, manages customer and claims administration, and then works with local insurance carriers that own the insurance risk.
Product Design: Turaco designs its products and services nimbly and customer focused. We understand that the microinsurance market is nuanced – it can require innovative and bespoke solutions.
Customer Experience: Insurance is about having your back. Unfortunately, a lot of insurance companies have lost their way, avoiding claims or drowning their customers in a maze of bureaucratic processes and paperwork. The Junior Microinsurance Officer will report to the Country Director. We are looking for someone who is hungry to grow and be challenged in a fast-paced start-up. We are looking for someone who loves people and loves solving problems. We are incredibly selective about the people that join our team.
Systems Development – As a start-up our systems are still under development. The Junior Microinsurance Officer will participate in systems development across the business.
Insurance Administration – registration of new customers, management of databases, and other tech tools.
Claims Administration – claims verification, management, transaction management, and communications.
Account Management and Servicing – customer communications, relationship support and management
Start-Up People Wear Many Hats – As a start-up everyone on the team will be called upon to do tasks that are not related to their title or job description. It is an exciting place to be, and the variety of work will always keep the team busy and engaged.
Minimum insurance qualification: Certificate of Proficiency
Bachelors degree qualification required
At least three-years’ work experience, preferably in an international organisation and/or insurance
Strong track record of back-office performance, including administrative management, reports, contracts, business processes, and the like
Great interpersonal skills and communication skills
Experience in developing and improving operational delivery processes
Ability to work autonomously and take initiative; demonstrate self-motivation and energy, work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Willingness to work as a team member with people across geographies and cultures
Fluency in spoken and written English essential, local language knowledge preferred
Strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel or Access, but also Word and PowerPoint
