Uzima’s sister company, EthioChicken, is the market leader in Ethiopia with over 1,000 employees, eight production facilities, and annual sales of 15m day-old chicks. Uzima seeks to grow to a comparable scale in Uganda and plans to deliver 1 chicken per Ugandan household per year by 2025. Uzima aims to be the leading smallholder-focused poultry enterprise in Uganda and Rwanda.

Job Summary

Uzima is seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Talent and Administration Associate with a passion for improving the lives of smallholder farmers. The Talent and Administration Associate is responsible for a diverse scope of work with the primary goal of developing and maintaining a fun and high-performing work environment. The Talent and Administration Associate will report to the Managing Director.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Managing recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new Uzima team members – includes developing job descriptions, sourcing candidates through various channels, facilitating interviews, preparing offers / contracts, liaising with candidates, and facilitating orientations.

  • Managing employee database and appropriate records to track employee benefits, leave and performance.

  • Administering employee benefits, preparing payroll and submitting to Finance team in a timely manner, and ensuring employee registration with pension fund.

  • Assisting in implementation of professional development programs and regular performance evaluations.

  • Leading office set-up and management as needed (identifying office space, negotiating lease agreements, managing rental / utility payments, overseeing office furnishing).

  • Organizing office events such as meetings, workshops, retreats, and trainings.

  • Organizing transport / logistics and managing administrative requests for leadership team and visitors, as needed.

Key Characteristics

Uzima Chicken is seeking a candidate who has the following characteristics:

  • Passionate about positively impacting smallholder farmers and customers in rural areas.

  • University degree with three-to-five years of work experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently with limited follow-up.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills – ability to prioritize.

  • Detail-oriented, with a highly-developed sense of reliability.

  • High level of integrity and accountability.

  • Adaptive and flexible; ability to learn quickly.

  • Leadership potential - desire and capacity to grow into leadership roles.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word).
